Help, my A/C is not working on my 89 525i. I took it in to a local auto A/C specialist and he told me I have two problems.
1. My system is "tired" and I need a new compressor, condenser, and dryer (system has plenty of R12, no leaks)
2. I have an electrical problem. The compressor will not switch on when the inside A/C button is pushed, fan works OK. He got it to work by using a jumper wire.
Has anyone experienced this problem before? Could it be something simple like a pressure switch or relay? He wants US$850~US$900 to replace the above components plus extra to find the electrical problem. Any advice would help.

By the way, I have never had any A/C problems on my 85 325e which I have owned for 7+ years. I would think the 525i system would be just as reliable.
