I can help with removing the DME.
I'll start from the beginning.
First I totally disconnected the battery to prevent a spike/spark frying my DME (ounce of prevention...)
DME is located in the black sealed box on the right side next to firewall in engine compartment. Remove 4 nuts holding on lid and pull cover straight off. On my 540i the DME is the module closest to the firewall. I removed the cable to it first by lifting the lever to the connector and carefully wiggling off the connector. Then I used a needle-nose pliers to pull up the two clipson each side holding the DME firmly in the slot. It's a tight fit in the slots and the next slot was filled with relays on a bracket. To ensure clearance for the DME I loosened the nuts holding the relay bracket in place, and pushed it as far forward as possible. Then I was able to easily lift the DME out. Total time 10 minutes, tops.
: I also have a 95 540i that I did some research into possible getting a Jim Conforti chip, "sharked" as they say. I think there are only 2 Jim C vendors, Eurosport in Nevada and Turner Motorsport in Mass. and I think only Eurosport has the 95 chip. You can send them the entire DME and they will replace the chip and send you back the upgraded DME. They advertise in all BMW mags and if you check the E34 archieves you will see reference to Eurosport in chip threads. My problem is I need help getting to the point you are at which is getting the DME module out. I need instruction on how to get the DME out of the bracket. Any help is appreciated.
