: Hi,
: I live in Thailand and that could be the biggest problem! Import tax on spare parts (100%) and NO WARRANTY ! Most all of my problems occured in the last year or so, the A/C went out we run it 365days a year here about $1200 U.S., DME Check control went out $1100 U.S. , seat control module $700 U.S. , autotrans oil seals $350 U.S. , brake light housings bulb sockets melted $350 each , projection style headlamps melted sockets $500 for set , fan belt and several pulley bearings froze up and tossed through radiator $600 , drive shaft CV joints $300 , several window switches and misc extras get us up to about $6000 bucks U.S.

: When it runs, it runs great !! Hope you all have better luck than I do...

: Thanks, Rick
: : : I bought a New 95 525i for myslef and a New 95 Honda Accord for the wife , (What a Guy) . Milage to date on the Honda is 65k the BMW has 32k , other than routine maint.(Oil change..etc.) the Honda has NOT had one major problem , on the other hand the BMW has had several and has left me stranded on the road two times. Not counting routine maint. the Honda cost to date is ZERO but the BMW has cost me close to $6000 bucks . As I speak the BMW is in the shop AGAIN , autotrans fluid leak. I know as you read this you maybe be telling me STOP WHINING , but I see a lot of problems posted on the board... so I can not be the only one who feels this way ???

: : I just bought a '95 525i...a few problems to start but thank God for warranties. I'm watching it carefully as I pass through 42k miles and so far so good. Strange thing is that consumer reports calls this model quite reliable and is actually a recommended used car by them (amazing that BMW would achieve this status). Since it is the last of this series, they had 6 years to get most things right. Good luck (and me too). Dean

Wow, wonder if you got a lemon? I also owned a Honda civic and it was bulletproof for 4 years and 60k miles. Guess we sort of have to decide if we want a fun/quality/performance ride or pure reliability. Haven't heard of a car that puts it all together and gives you the best of both. Until then, keep owning and enjoying both cars! Dean.
