Use only the CHF fluid number stamped on the reservoir cap. My 1994 530i uses CHF 11.S, while some others use CHF 7.1. Do not mix the fluids or use any other power steering fluid. The cost of this fluid (at my dealer) was about $21 per liter and about $18 through some catalogues. At these prices, be glad you fixed the leak. By the way, what model is your BMW. Some of my steering hoses are also slowly leaking, but a couple of them are very difficult to get at. Just wondering if you had any difficulties and how you resolved them.

: My manual says use ATF in the power steering reservoir, but the cap on the reservoir says use BMW "CHF" fluid. I can't find anything that is compatable at the parts stores, and want to put the right thing in. I found some STP universal fluid that is O.K. for Mercedes as well as "most other foreign cars except Honda". Any help will be greatly appreciated. I put new clamps on my hoses so I hope I've stopped the leaks, now I need to top off the reservoir.
