How did you time it? What launch approach did you use?

Things can vary greatly when doing this - trying to time it with a stopwatch can introduce +/- up to 2 secs (no one is that quick on a stopwatch - consider the best drag racers have ~.5 sec reation times), and using the stock speedo adds more error. Time it with an instument designed to do this, and you'll see consistent results, and probably a drop in time - there are some consumer instruments now, Gtech being one (no, I'm not associated with them, and I don't own one, but my buddy does and it times with the best of the drag strip instruments we have comapred it to.

Also, to launch an auto for max accel times, you must floor it with brakes on and allow it to rev 5 or so seconds, or rev it to just below redline (above torque peak, just below HP peak) then drop it in gear while flooring it. This can make a second or more of difference (I've seen 3 seconds added).

My 91 525iA consistently get 7.8 0-60 on good instruments and level ground. Of course, if all I wanted was to accel fast in a straight line, I'd have bought a firebird, camaro, or mustang and hoped I never needed great handling.

: 9.0 seconds. It doesn,t feel thaT SLOW
