The alarm in my 92 535i is a dealer installed BMW unit (the only BMW alarm offered for this car).
It is not cheap, but I feel worth the money..here is why.

The car is wired for it. The main unit mounts under the rear seat (driver's side), plugs directly int the relays (No wire splicing), detects glass breakage and tampering, kills the ignition and it's made by Alpine for BMW.

FWI...it's also the same alarm that is made by Alpine for Honda, Acura, Mazda and many others. It is tried and true.

It may not have all the gimmicky bells and whistles, but I think its integration, relaibility, and features make it well worth it.
