I suspect that the lighter 'feel' of the 3 has fooled your 'butt dyno'into that thinking mode...however the asswhuppin a 540 would put on the 3 would take less that the 100 feet.
This is not necessarily directed at you, BUT do all you guys drive BMW's for the 0-60 rush??
: I just had the M60 short block replacement and was given two different 328ia's as loaners, a 1998 and 1999. I noticed two things that have made me very curious (please indulge me):
: 1. It is much easier to press down on the accelerator of the 328 than the 540; I drove a 528 a while back and noticed that it was very similar to the 328 in this respect. Essentially, one only need tap the accelerator for the 328/528 and it takes off; the 540 requires lots more pressure. I have noticed this on other 540's I have driven as well. Why is this?
: 2. The 328's seem to have a lot more low end torque than the 540. Step on the gas and it takes off immediately, and fast. In the 540, the power does not seem to kick in until about 20-25 mph. I have never raced a 328 side by side, but after having driven both myself within minutes of one another, it seems that the 328 would beat the 540 easilly from the line initially, with the 540 blowing it away after a hundred or so feet. Am I insane?
