Depends on what you're looking for. An E28 535is will have approximately 185 hp and 215 ft-lb of torque. An E34 525i will have between 168 to 190 hp (depending on year and engine) with about 170 ft-lb of torque. The key is torque. If you're looking for performance, there's no question that the 535 will be superior, especially "off the line". If you're looking for luxury and a car that will revvvvv, then the 525 will be for you. The 525 is newer and will have more comfort features, but an E28 535 will have raw "let's get down to business" feeling. Also, being the older model, the 535 should be substantially cheaper. Like another poster said, have the car checked out by a competent mechanic. Good Luck. Bruce
