First of all, I want to thank all those that helped figure out the oil leak and the Gas smell problems on my 92 535. Your diagnosis were right on the money. THANKS!
This time I have a bit more serious problem. I found oil in my coolant...LOTS of oil. When I remove the cap the liquid looked like a chocolate colored mixture that flows like oil if I dip my finger into it.
The only thing I've had done recently was a service to look for an oil leak and change the oil and filter. At the time my shop didn't find anything unusual. They tightened the two bolts on the front crank sensor bracket and the leak went way. They also changed the oil and filter.
After I found the oil in the coolant, I decided to check the engine oil level and found it to be TOO HIGH. The level is about 1/8th of a inch above the MAX mark (top line) on the dip stick. My mechanic tells me the oil can be a little high without damaging the engine. Is this true? Can putting too much oil in the engine cause the oil to leak into the coolant? I am trying to figure out if the shop may have caused this problem.
If the problem was not caused by too much oil then what could be the cause?? Any ideas?
Please note- the car runs cool and smooth (normal). No funny sounds, or abnormal engine activity. Just dirty- oily coolant.
