Experienced the same problem on my 91 525i. Dealer had no answer. Up till now I suspected the connectors under the rear seat, but could not find it. Disconnecting the battery and leave it disconnected for 10-20 minutes would cure the problem for some time.
Getting in from the right side, climbing into the back, dismount the seat and then disconnect the battery is no fun.
: Just a followup for anyone interested. The problem was a fatigued (cracked) fusible link in the engine compartment. It provided intermittent power to all the accessories that are connected to power distribution box under the rear seat. I have jumpered it out. Was told by dealer that the fusible link is a 69 cent part. Probably cheapest part on the car.
