No history of over heating. We never even rev the car past 5000RPM. Never driven over 100MPH.
How could I have blown the head gasket? Do you know of any common causes that result in this condition (blown head gasket, cracked head, or cracked block?)

: You've described classic symptoms of a blown head gasket.

: Oil in the water, as you stated.

: Your unexplained increase in oil level is due to water getting into the crankcase with the oil. *NOT* a good thing. Water is not nearly as good a lubricant as oil.

: If your mechanic couldn't figure this out, you need an new mechanic.

: I would not drive the car until you have a confirmation regarding the cause.

: Here's a couple of ideas...

: Check the underside of the oil fill cap when the car is cold. White milky stuff on the underside??? That's water in your oil. Das ist nicht gut!

: Have a compression test done. This might help determine root cause. If compression is down in one or in two adjacent cylinders, definately head gasket. If no problem, still does not rule out head gasket. Test just confirms it.

: Other possibilities..., cracked head ($$), cracked block ($$$$$).

: BTW, is there any history of overheating??

: Anyway, best way to tell exactly what the problem is is have head removed. Any decent mechanic worth their salt can give you a straight diag from there.

: Unfortunately, there's no "quick fix" for this condition.

: Good luck.
