We have always owned a coupe and a wagon of some kind. I am now considering an E34 to replace the coupe but have one hesitancy with this vehicle (or any sedan for that matter, including the Audis also under consideration)in that, our 50 lb. border collie would evidently need to occupy part of the back seat beside my six year old, which gives me safety concerns. In the hatchback coupes and wagons, she has always existed happily behind the rear seat.
Has anyone tried different arrangements? Can the rear shelf or a portion thereof be made removeable so that the dog can sit in the trunk but still get light/warmth/cooling? I'd prefer not to go with the Touring version as I really don't want two wagons.
The Audis at least have a split flip-down rear seat so perhaps the dog can lie half in & half out of the trunk. This might also spare the upholstery.
Thanks.
