: FYI - The M50tub Vanos engine in the 525i has a timing chain...only the early E34 525i M20 engines had belts.

Ok, since Andy T. didn't say what engine he had, the question then is does the timing chain on the M50tub Vanos engine or any engine with a timing chain, need to be changed every 100K? Andy T. wrote that he changed his timing chain every 100k miles. Its my understanding that timing chains, do not need to be changed unless something serious happens to the engine. Bruce
