If it starts equally poorly when hot or cold, then the check valve is a good place to start. If it is much worse when the car is hot, I would bet on the crank angle position sensor.
: My 525 (m20) has done 115k miles,it in an 1989 model but it is a poor starter. I have to crank the starter for 5 to 10 seconds before it fires up. Any helpfull advice welcome. PS. new sparkplugs and rotar arm fitted and made no odds.
