: : I own a 90 535i, with 50,000 miles, that drives and handles like new expect for when I drive over a bump or pot hole. Any suggestions as to what might be the issue? Shocks, bushings???
: : There's is no play in the wheel when I brake.

: Perhaps you could describe what happens when you do go over bumps?

When I drive over a bump, uneven raod or pothole it feels like the front of the car is not touching the ground and the streering wheel jumps around. Otherwise, the car drives and handles wonderfully(i.e. braking, cornering, touring, etc.).

: Assuming the issue is just one of steering play, then usually the play can be adjusted out very simply, with an adjustment in the steering box, and possibly a tighten-up of the flexible coupling in the steering column. This shouldn't take more than an hour at a competent workshop, and it is possible to do yourself (but others will be better qualified to give you directions.)
