I can't speak to the labor cost issue, but as concerns the radiator for an automatic 1991 model 535i the mail order houses sell them for $259 and $275. I just purchased mine from the local BMW dealer for $310 which included my BMW CCA membership discount.

Good luck with the repair. While I don't believe you will find that much accumulation inside the radiator, my experience indicates the plastic side tanks on these radiators requires the radiator be replaced after about 8 years of service to avoid unexpected failures.
