Checked my 89 535 at lunch, and the wheel does not lock in the center, and as I recall, my wife's 530 doesn't either.
: Should the steering wheel on my 92' 525 lock in the center position, after I remove the key from the ignition? This is, of course, if the front wheels are pointed straight. My car does not do this. Instead it locks either to the left or the right side. My car needed to be aligned and so I took it to the dealer for a four wheel alignment. When I asked my advisor about the steering wheel locking crooked, he said, "BMW 's do not always lock in the center position, sometimes they do but sometimes they don't, whats important is that the steering wheel locks. I know because I've been a mechanic for 14 years and never heard of the steering wheel having to lock in the center position." I get my car back tomorrow, but I would appreciate any information on this matter. All the BMW's I've ridden in have had the steering locked in the center position. Sorry for the long message.
