: How the heck do you check/fill the tranny fluid on a '91 535? I got the Haynes manual, the photo displays what it looks like a standard Automatic tranny eyed-disptick, however whatever is there only rotates around.I tried to pull it straight out, then unscrew it (?)..nothing...Any ideas?

The dipstick at the rear of the engine bay DOES pull out. Be aware that on a ZF 4 speed auto box the level MUST be checked with the engine running! Use Dexron II or III ATF to top up.
