I had a similar experience with my 89 535; I'd apply the throttle, revs would rise, but the car didn't want to do anything.

This was usually accompanied by the check engine light, and would come and go. It hasn't (knock veneer) happened in 3 months.

In response to net inquires, I used Marvel's Mystery Oil a few times and that may have helped.
The other contributing factor to the improvement *may* have been the mechanic "resetting" the DME.

: When taking off from a stop my 535i has bad hesitation.
: Its a '89 model, automatic transmission, 109k miles.
: I've replaced: spark plugs, ignition wires, cap and rotor, crank sensor, had the valves adjusted. My mechanic hooked it up to the diag and it returnd zero fault codes.
