I just had the lower apron, skirt, and valances painted body color to match the later model E34 paint schemes. The original black trim was good for making the car appear longer than it was, and to protect against dirt, mud, etc. But I thought the full body color effect was more aggressive and offered the most cost effective way of adding "ground effects." I also had the letters "BMW" custom-painted in the licence plate insert panel on the front of the car, cuz it looks cool.

I originally wanted the M5 rims too, but they only come in one size: TOO SMALL. So I went with the next best thing. I always liked the M-Contour style anyway. Now when I park next to M5's, my wheels make theirs look pathetic. Of course, their engines make mine sound pathetic... :)

Looked at spoilers and aerodyanmic kits, but could never justify the cost. I prefer the clean styling of the E34 without any gimmicky wings, and the stock M5 styling package is very attractive in its conservative and functional execution. I saw an E39 yesterday at the Cheesecake Factory that was dark green. Lowering springs, wheels, clear indicator lights, and M5 mirrors went a LONG way in making this car look ten times better.
