: have a 92 525i which is leaking fluid around the final drive deals where the cv shafts come out of the diff. does anyone have any experiences in changing these.
: Thanks

Yep, I installed a new seal in my '95 540i a few months ago. The seal costs about $25 from the dealer with CCA discount. Jack up the car, put stands under it, pull the rear wheel(s), remove the halfshaft(allen head bolts) and take the halfshaft mounting flange off the diff. Getting the snapring out is the biggest problem and then just pull out the old seal, put the new one in and re-install all the parts. Be sure to fill up the diff with fluid, and, Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, drain the fluid before starting this procedure. (ALWAYS unscrew the FILL plug before removing the drain plug.
