cable for up/down mechanism for 525i headrest (archive)

the cable which drives the (one piece) mechanism that raises and lowers the headrest appears stripped at the end. question. where can I get a new cable and what is an alternative solution. the cost to replace the entire unit(the motor is ok) is 300. please help
