I just did the same swap on my '89 with 125k. At the same time I had the upper and lower control arms (purchased from Bav Auto for ~$450 total) changed as the ball joints had quite a bit of play. Front end is now as tight as a drum, I can't believe it was any better new.....

FYI, if you're going to do it yourself make sure that you get a ball joint puller or the right sized pickle fork or you'll never get the ball joint off the strut assembly (don't ask how I know this.....)
