10 inch rears will work, IF the offset is correct and precise. If it's off a couple of millimeters, expect some rubbing. From the factory, the rear fender lips are rolled. In worst cases, you can expect to roll a bit more of fender lip, and yet you may still experience slight rubbing. Do your homework. You'll be much happier. I can email you pictures of my '89 535iA and '93 535iM with 9" and 9.5" rears respectively (8 and 8.5 fronts, 18 inch wheels).
