1.5 liters oil over 400 miles would leave a visible trail of smoke if in fact it is being burned, whether via rings or intake/PCV system.
Paul wasn't clear on the oil warning light, but I assume he meant the oil "level" as opposed to "pressure". If the latter is the case, he may have overfilled the crankcase and it's getting "frothed-up" by the crank and getting air into the oil system.
A bit far-fetched, but check the dipstick for correct length.

: You might want to check the PCV valve and other components of the crankcase ventilation system for blockage.
