Slippery Firestone tires !! (archive)

A while back I recommended Firestone FireHawk SZ tires because I put a set on my BMW.

That was a big mistake. They are slippery in the rain, and slippery in the dry - plus they howl loudly when cornering. They also don't brake well in the dry. I'm afraid to test braking them hard in the rain - they're that
bad!

What's worse, Firestone is arrogant - they won't even answer email. Why buy from jerks when other companies
are so responsive? :=)

So I'd recommend BF Goodrich's G-Force tires instead. The Tire Rack tested them and said they offer the best dry traction they've ever measured in a street tire. They have a treadwear index of 300, which is amazing for a tire with high performance traction. OTOH, the Firestone has a treadwear index of 400, and its poor grip explains that.

What's more, Car & Driver reported recently that only 4 tire companies test every tire to be sure it's round before it leaves the factory. BF Goodrich and Michelin test for roundness, Firestone does not.

So forget Firestone, and consider BF Goodrich G-Force tires!
