Do a compression test before you start taking everything apart, if the rings are bad enough to require renewal you will get a low reading, it could also mean leaky valves, or C/H gasket, (more likely.)

I would have said that you could do the rings yourself, as described by a previous reply,
providing you have the time and patience.
But I note from the W/S manual that it is described as an engine out job. If you can do it with the engine in situ, there are still many pitfalls, depending on your experience.
