Also check the idler bushing (can be replaced), experiment with your tyre pressures, and see if your steering box has excessive play (can be adjusted).

If your tyres are excessively worn, you can also get wandering.

I found that on my '91 535, replacing the idler bushing and get the box adjusted made a very pleasing improvement to the car's steering response and straight line stability.
