I had the same thing happen to me, when the brake lights still work. Took out the bulbs and they weren't burnt out, but they had a black smokey haze at the top.

Replaced them, and no more message. I think the system senses the slight resistance caused by an almost bad bulb. If I'm right, that's damn good engineering if you ask me!

: hmmm... i was driving and all of the sudden this msg came up "BRAKE LT CIRCUIT"... so i checkout out my brake lights and that's not it... when i restarted my car, the message was gone... can someone give me some relief/ peace of mind... thanks!
