My wheel was starting to feel a little rough in the 12 o'clock position and showing similar problems. I just hit it with a few applications of Lexol leather cleaner and all is well. Reapply once a month or so, works great.

'90 525i

: I have a 90 525i, and the leather steering wheel has a black finish of some sort that is flaking off. The appearance doesn't matter to me, but the chips fall all over the car.
