I looked at the control arm bushings and don't think you could hurt them by doing what you describe, but I wouldn't do it again.
: Last weekend when I did the brakes on my '90 535i, I jacked the front of the car with a floor jack under the center of the front subframe. I then put two jackstands under the inner end of each control arm, where they bolt to the subframe.
: I know, "never jack suspension pieces", but I was thinking "this looks like a big beefy steel piece, and it's right were it attaches to the subframe. Looks pretty sturdy, and I won't be putting any bending load on it." Upon later reflection, I'm thinking that this could have damaged the bushing in the end of the control arm, where it bolts to the subframe. That bushing probably isn't designed to hold the weight of the car. Anybody have any thoughts/experience on this?
