Lets not forget (for all of our cars) that you can use good old black liquid shoe dye to re-dye the wheel when it starts looking worn.
I do mine about once a year and they both look great. And yes, I also use a leather treatment on the wheel at least once a year when I do the seats.

: I have a 90 525i, and the leather steering wheel has a black finish of some sort that is flaking off. The appearance doesn't matter to me, but the chips fall all over the car.
