The 745i turbo was a 3 liter engine with a turbo. In the old days when turbo's were THE thing you could have the power output of an engine that had a 50% larger capacity, hence the label 745i.
The estimated power output of 400HP is completely unreal.
A MODERN DAY (!) high output turbo engine will give you around 100-115HP per liter, resulting in something like 330HP.
Is your friend a dreamer? How is he planning to get 400HP from an "old" engine? I'm really interested to found out where he will find the missing 70 (or more) horsepower.
I designed and installed my own intercooled supercharger system in my 530i Touring (94)and I
ended up with 345HP. I can assure you that it takes A LOT of tuning to get to this output once you passed the 300HP on a 3 liter engine.
So don't throw around those wild-guess-numbers.
