: happy you were not injured. Back in April of this year, my very pampered e28 and I were struck from the passenger side by a Mack 18 wheeler. He was doing about 50 MPH when he hit T-Bone style, and pushed me more than 250 feet. My back was broken as well as my jay and 4 ribs (two of which were shattered so bad that they are still floating around in there). The BMW di an admirable job protecting me considering what she had to stand up to. It was not really the truckers fault, as I was trying to get out of the way of a person in a FORD GIGANTUA SUV talking on their cell phone. When I looked over my left shoulder , at head level, all I could see was FORD and chrome and sheet metal ( I say the person talking earlier and had a feeling things were going to get nasty. Well I dodged the FORD but wound up in front of something much larger going much faster. When the dust settled, I was found unconcious and carried off, the car was found dead and carried off, but did the SUV driver stop.............Hell no.
Result: Hospitalized, lost very nice car, can reliably predict the weather.

If I had a vote, I would ban all traditional SUV's or require a 1 year training course for all SUV owner/drivers. Courses would cover Lane changes, use of turn signals, tailgaiting abuse, driving too fast for conditions, and a withdrawal program for cell phone users.

Happy that you are OK,
Michael, now driving a great 525ia (would be grater if 535 5 spd)
