: May BMW dealer (Sears Imports in Minneapolis) says that the BMW SYnthetic is Castrol Syntec. I see other opinions that is is Valvoline and Mobil 1. These are all fine synthetics, but am just curious.
Thanks,
Jay
The BMW synth is 5w-40 produced by Valvoline. Valvoline is now marketing the 5w40 at retail, although I havent seen it on any shelves yet, only the 5w-30.

: : I've been using Mobil 1 in my cars since it came out in 1976(?). I won't use anything else! I have also used Slick 50 since it inception and I can't prove any benifits, but I can prove no harm! I did notice the engine felt smoother with Slick 50, but that could be physcological. They make a synthetic Slick 50 to use with Mobil 1 and the like.
: : I hear the German Synthetic oils that Bav Auto and BMP sell are very good too, but expensive.
: : According to my BMW dealer, BMW's synthetic oils is Mobil 1.
