: Why was the head gasket replaced?? any other work done on the car, or tinkered with??? Do you service the car properly??? (plugs, ingnition wires, fuel filter, air filter, fluids) could the fuel injector system be dirty and clogged??? can there be a fuel leak?? or bad oxygen sensor????
Head gasket replaced due to hairline crack in gasket, which allowed air into coolant system -- causing air bubble blockage and overheating, and coolant into cylinder #6. Work done two months ago by 30-year import mechanic veteran shop. Overheating problem corrected. "Trigger contact" replaced on spark plug, as well as three plug wire ends and all new spoark plugs. Oxygen sensor OK. No fuel leaks. Valves adjusted. Runs fine -- no hesitation. When cruising at 65 mph, OBC indicates 20 mpg average fuel consumption. In city, drops quickly to 13-14 mpg, whereas before the head gasket repair it stayed about 18 in city and 21-22 on highway. Thanks for any and all help. DJD in KY
: : Recently had head gasket replaced. Ever since, gas mileage has dropped from an average of 20 mpg (city and highway combined) to 14-15 mpg. Why is this and how can I fix? Thanks very much. Happy Holidays to all!! DJD in KY.
