Hi Mike,

I'll give you my $.02 but keep in mind that this is my personal opinion and is situation-dependent.

As I like to work on my cars, there is some virtue to an engine compartment that is well laid-out and accessible. My view on the E34 chassis is that it was not originally designed for a V8 engine (based on what I see, not any hard manufacturing data). When I look under the hood of a 540 and how things have been moved around to accommodate the wider engine, I get a bit nervous when I think of maintainance issues.

The 535 gives you the thrill that only torque can. My '91 has been trouble-free so far (except for needing a cooling system overhaul which was due anyway). Why add the complexity of two additional cylinders and all the clutter that goes with it for no gain?

Again, it's a very subjective thing and I'm sure some will disagree with my analysis.
