I just had the worst experience after eating dinner in Santa Monica last night. While on a small residential street (14th St.) an Oldsmobile Alero went zooming by me (I guess I was driving to slow) at about 40 mph. When the car swerved back onto the right side of the road it ran a stop sign, nailed a pedestrian, threw him 10 feet in the air, carried him another 20 feet, and sped off. I chased the car for a couple blocks until I could get the license plate. Then I turned around since I was concerned about the guy laying in a dark intersection bleeding to death. When I arrived I parked my car in front of him for light. There was blood everywhere. Both legs, an arm, and his neck were broken (I found this out later). His shoes and pants were thrown off his body. Some neighbors came out and covered him with blankets (he was shaking from shock). I never felt so useless in my life. To make things worse about an hour later his girlfriend came walking by asking what happened. When she told me her boyfirend was an hour late I knew it was the guy who got hit. Apparently they live across the street from eachother and he was coming over to cook dinner. When they finally tracked the driver down it turned out to be a 60 year old women with a history of mental problems (psycho). She went to a bar after the incedent. She claims she hit someone but the person she hit walked away.
I know we BMW people are all safe drivers (I hope). I just want to remind everyone to drive safely. Resist the temptation to test your car's abilities on residential streets. Never assume the right of way when crossing the street on foot (you wont win). Sorry about the long post. I just havent been able to sleep for a while. I have to live with this forever.
