: Just wondering, mine takes like 10 minutes, my mom's 735i is warm within 5 minutes usually, and stays there. Is this normal, or do I have something wrong? Thanks.

My 91 M5 has an oil temp gauge--don't know about other E34's. It takes a good 15-20 minutes to get to the 175 degree range. It is way longer than it takes for water temp to get to normal. Bottom line, don't put the engine under heavy loads until the oil temperature is almost at normal. It takes a lot of restraint getting on the freeway everyday.
