Hi John,

Lots of guys on the board do work on their own cars. Some only do oil changes, and there are some that do ALL maintenance and repairs themselves. If you have a little time and patience and don't mind getting dirty, I would spend the money and buy a Bentley's repair manual and some good tools and that will save You lots of money in the long run. Start out with simple tasks like engine oil, then move up to regular pm (flush coolant, diff, tranny, power steering, change filters and plugs, etc...) when You gain some confidence. Brakes are also very easy. A very good way to get to know your car and how it works as well as giving you a sense of accomplishments. Alternatives are the local Stealer or a good independent shop which will have a lower labor rate. This board is great about giving info on procedures etc, almost everything imaginable has been done by somebody who reads here so ask away. Don't be intimidated as it is just a car and if You get stuck, worst case is that You have it towed to a professional and pay them to fix it, Good Luck.

Best,
Rory

: How much is everyone paying for the 75K service and the 90K service? Also, where is a reliable, respectable, and inexpensive place to get repairs (such as changing brakes) done on a bmw? what shops are there in la or orange county? thanks in advance.
