Last week, I was on a business trip from Los Angeles to Santa Barbara with three office buddies. It was decided that I take my car, a black '93 535i 5 speed that's been lowered with 18 inch AC Schnitzers (with other tweaks). Basically we cruised along at 70 mph, a comfortable speed where the CHP tend to leave enough alone, at least in Southern California. Fortunately, we never hit any traffic. Between Ventura and Santa Barbara was where the fun began. We were driving along discussing business and stategies when I decided to look in my rear view mirror. Out of nowhere, a silver E30 325i cabriolet M3 wannabe has his BMW kidneys filling my mirrors. I ignored him. He pulled up next to us encouraging the inevitable. The encouraging continued for a few miles. There we were in my E34 in our nicely pressed white shirts and ties. Hmm, I thought. I looked over at my buddy next to me. I then get a tap from behind from my other buddy. He simply said to me "Loose him." I looked at the other two guys in the car with me. They just grinned with agreement. ---I rowed the gearshift into 4th and hammered it. You can hear the rush of air being sucked through K&N cone filter as the speedometer quickly moved into triple digits. I watched the tach reach about 6600rpm when I decided to row it into next notch. Those kidneys that once filled my mirrors shrunk real quickly. I backed off at about 118-120mph. We let the E30 catch up. He gave a friendly nod, and backed waaay off. We continued on with our business in MY executive express at 70mph. ---We got to the meeting too early. Gotta love this car. . .
