The 92 lights were/are POS. You are looking at replacing the lenses/reflectors with the ellipsoidal lights (AKA projector lights). These can be DOT as installed on both earlier and later E34s in the states, or Euro lenses. The DOT can be a dealer item; I got mine used for $125 and they were a noticeable improvement. Not as good as the Euros but cheaper and a direct plug in.

The Euros can be sourced from Bekkers.com for $489; they also sell a black Hella unit for $560. be warned these require rewiring but can use the 100W bulbs. This would give you the best lighting within the stock location w/o going to separate driving lights. See the archives under headlights for more.
