My 90-535i had same symptoms for many months. Replaced three thermostats, bled system. OK for awhile, then overheated. Bled air from system again, fine for awhile, then overheated again. Same story for six months -- four towtruck hauls, three thermostats, and one new radiator. The real problem turned out to be a cracked head gasket -- at 110,000 miles. The cracked gasket allowed air into the coolant, and eventually an air blockage occurred. Coolant also leaked into the cylinder adjacent to the cracked gasket. Overall solution: replaced head gasket and haven't had a problem since (four months and about 6,000 miles). Good luck. DJD in KY
