I think I actually called Redline and asked if MTL was OK, but I can't remember. You might want to try that. I know many, many people on the BMW-Digest use MTL. You might ask if it's OK there.

My shifting got easier when I switched from regular ATF to Redline MTL.

: it has a higher resistance to heat, and BMW manual boxes make more heat than your average stick shift. That's why it says ATF on my transmission by the fill hole. Where did you hear otherwise? And how hard is shifting with MTF?
