: It's about time to replace the battery in my '95 540i and I checked with my local shop and his price seems about right, $110 for the 72 month job. I have been interested in the Optima battery however, and wondered if anyone has any experience with it? I can get it for about $140 so the cost is not much different, but I seem to remember that the posts are reversed and it takes a little jury-rigging to get it to work right.

Bill, If memory serves me right there is only 3-4 battery mfg. that make ALL batteries. You can go hi $$$ or check around. I did. I believe what you want is a #49-675. This will be a vented, non-maintenance free battery with CA=950 amps & CCA =750 amps. It may be about 1" shorter than OEM, but if you check where the battery mounts, you should find there is a threaded hole for both. It should carry a 72-month warranty. Most 950-amp batteries do. Good luck
