This vintage 4-speed auto is known for clutch A
pack failure...check archives on 7-series board.
Try putting the car in neutral when idling and
rev engine "briefly". Does the car still want to
move forward? If it does chances are your A-clutch is sticking and its only a matter of time. Regardless change the trans fluid and filter. Hopefully your valve body is dirty and
new fluid and filter will help. Report your find-
ings after trying the neutral test. Do not rev
your engine with this trans for more than a very
few seconds in park or neutral due to the tendency to toast the A-clutch pack.
Hope this helps.
I've got an 89 535i (had it a couple of weeks). With the transmission (auto) in the 'Drive' position, it seems like the car pulls forward pretty hard without gas applied. In other words, with foot on brake, car in Drive, lift brake pedal and car picks up speed quite easily. Is this common in these cars? Is it adjustable? Any ideas? Car has 102,000 miles on it.
