Sorry, but that's pretty silly. ATF has been used in many manual trannies over the past 30 years because it improves cold weather shifting. It's a "fix", made possible as ATF gear lube properties have improved enough to do the job in a manual tranny.
There is nothing special about a "BMW" gearbox.

: it has a higher resistance to heat, and BMW manual boxes make more heat than your average stick shift. That's why it says ATF on my transmission by the fill hole. Where did you hear otherwise? And how hard is shifting with MTF?
