: I have found a 1993 525i with 71,000 miles. I am truly a BMW novice. I have always bought used japanese cars and have had great luck (pre-depreciated, reliable vehicles). I'm leery of the perhaps undeserved BMW reputation for being finicky, unreliable cars. Anyone care to set me straight? Thanks.

help me out here guys. When bringing in a car for a "buyer survey", is it necessary to do a leakdown test or compression test? Funny, but many shops do not include this test in the standard buyer survey. But they will do it for another charge. Is it worth it, or safe to assume engine is OK if regular maintenance performed?
