I just upgraded to BBS RK wheels, 16x8, with 225/50-16 Dunlop SP5000's and I am quite pleased. I would go with an 8 inch wide rim, even with 225 tires, definitely with the 235's to maintain maximum contact patch.
17 inch rims are nice but tires will generally be a bit more expensive and towards the higher end of the performance scale which usually translates into shorter life. There are exceptions but this is what I found in my research.
Good luck. By the way, the tire rack is the way to go if you're getting tires and wheels. Got mine in 4 days and they were balanced perfect!
