: If you notice most of these cars run engines under 2000cc not the big 5000cc+ v8 American cars have. Also there is only 2 real drag strips in the whole of the UK so not much chance to set cars up and do a lot of runs and tests. The best bit in the mag is the owners estimate of horsepower and performance of their cars, what a laugh.

You are right. Fuel prices generally keep engine sizes low. These boy racers (rice boys to you?) are looking for hot hatchbacks i.e. the very small town cars where the manufacturer has made a 'sport' version with an engine in a higher state of tune. They then try to breathe a bit more life into them but most of the upgrades are performed in ignorance without understanding the results.

The most worrying thing is the drag strip issue. On a Saturday night there are plenty of unofficial drag strips in operation (read public roads). Dangerous places to be considering most of the driving skills match the understanding of the modifications!!!

I know, I sound like an old fart............hey I am ;-)
